The cabinet of Sweden met today in honor of the birth of Princess Madeleine’s daughter, and her names were announced. Her full style and title is H.R.H. Princess Leonore Lilian Maria, Duchess of Gotland.
The announcement from the Royal Court can be read here, along with a picture of Leonore.
The announcement does not explain who she is named after, but it can be presumed that Lilian is after Madeleine’s aunt, Princess Lilian, who died last year, and Maria is Chris’ mother’s middle name.
I’m not surprised that Leonore has been given royal rank, since Sweden is all about equality and Madeleine retained her HRH (if this were the UK, it still depends on whether the father has a title – see the Princess Royal’s children), but after all the news saying she might not even be part of the line of succession because Madeleine and Chris intend to raise her in New York for the time being, it does seem a little anticlimactic (for lack of a better word).
Grattis and congratulations again to the happy family!
N.B.: The Swedish Court has posted video of the King’s announcement of Leonore’s name and title. You can watch it here.
