According to the Telegraph, Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh, has been taken to the hospital due to a bladder infection that may have been caused by standing in the cold and rain during yesterday’s Diamond Jubilee river pageant, though no official cause has been declared.

A Buckingham Palace press release has stated that Philip will be regrettably missing the rest of the jubilee festivities, including a pop concert that took place a few hours ago in front of the palace, and a service of thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral tomorrow, which will be followed by a balcony appearance.

Philip will be turning 91 this upcoming Sunday, and as sad as it sounds, this comes as a reminder that he may not be with us too much longer. He has enjoyed good health for most of his life, but between the heart scare this past December and this bladder infection, Philip certainly seems more frail these days.

It has always been apparent that Elizabeth loves and relies on Philip; in a speech, she once referred to him as “my strength and stay.” This November will mark their 65th wedding anniversary.

Of course, I wish Philip a speedy recovery.
