It’s turning out to be a right royal baby boom, as we’re three full months into 2012 and there have been three royal babies!

Peter Phillips, the son of Princess Anne (The Princess Royal), and his wife Autumn welcomed baby Isla Elizabeth on Thursday. She joins big sister Savannah, and they are (so far) the only great-grandchildren of the Queen. The girls are only technically royal, as Philip is considered part of the family, but not a “working” royal, yet they are 12th and 13th in line to the British throne. (The Brits don’t seem to differentiate between “royal family” and “royal house” the same way other monarchies do, but the Phillipses would probably fit in as “royal family,” while Princess Anne would be “royal house.”)

Like Lillepigen in Denmark, Isla makes for a wonderful Jubilee gift for the Queen, and it’s more than likely that she’s named after her great-grandma. (In addition, I am loving the name Isla.) Additionally, Isla’s arrival came just in time to lighten the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the deaths of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret, who both died in early 2002 (Princess Margaret in February, and The Queen Mother at the end of March) and were memorialized at a church service yesterday.

Congratulations to Peter and Autumn!
